Kansas Society for Clinical Laboratory Science
Kathern Forest Scholarship
KSCLS is pleased to offer a scholarship to medical laboratory students in memory of Kathern Forest. Ms. Forest was an active supporter for medical technology. She was, at different times, president of the Nebraska Society of Medical Technology and the Kansas Society for Medical Technology. She served as secretary to the American Society for Medical Technology from 1961-1963 and was a member of Alpha Mu Tau, a national honorary medical technology fraternity.
Ms. Forest graduated from Baker University and began practicing as a medical technologist in Nebraska in the 1940’s. She returned to Kansas to work at Wesley Hospital before beginning a long employment at the Dermatology Clinical in Wichita.
Ms. Forest was an advocate for medical technology education. She herself sought additional education at Wichita State University and provided mycology lectures to medical technology students. Her friends remember her as seeking to inform and educate others of the issues regarding aging and health care. She advocated for legislative changes in issues of malpractice, financing, and delivery of healthcare.
KSCLS is pleased to honor her memory as a model for future medical laboratory practitioners.
